Chatting on a record can be done through any object that has the ‘Chatter’ tab. In the example below, we are viewing an ‘Opportunity’ record where we can view the ‘Chatter’ tab. In order to utilize this feature, you must click it to view the drop down. Let’s get started.

Step 1. Navigate to any Opportunity Record and select the ‘Chatter’ tab. Depending on the design of the record page you might see it on the right sidebar or in the middle of the page.

Step 2. Chatter refers to chatting with a specific group or individual user. In our example, we'll be referencing a specific user. In order to reference that individual you must enter ‘@’ which will tell Salesforce you are sending a direct message to that individual. In this case, we are going to reference Shafi Ulla, one of our Salesforce users. When you reference a user, their name will appear as shown below.

Step 3: Next we are going to enter the information or update to provide our user. You will do this by entering text into the empty screen. For example, enter ‘Hello World’ or a text of your choice.

Step 4: Salesforce also allows you to customize your text, upload pictures, and attach links from external or internal sites. In the example below, we added Bold Text and a picture.
