2. Sandbox vs. Production - What is the Difference? What is a Production Environment?

A production environment (aka. production org) is your ‘live’ version of Salesforce that contains real, or live, data that is actively used to run your business. It is recommended that you only enter real data into this environment to ensure accurate reporting. Any testing or creation of test records should be reserved for the sandbox environment.
The login URL for Production is: https://login.salesforce.com

What is a Sandbox Environment?

A sandbox is a copy of your Salesforce org in a separate environment that you can use for a variety of purposes, such as testing and training. Sandboxes are completely isolated from your Salesforce production environment. The operations you perform in your sandboxes don’t affect your Salesforce production environment. Additionally, any changes made within your production environment will not automatically become visible in your sandbox(es). You can create test records in your sandbox environment. Your organization may have multiple sandbox environments for different purposes. However, there is only one production environment.

The login URL for a sandbox is: https://www.test.salesforce.org

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is my username and password the same between Production and Sandbox environments?
No, your username will be different between the two environments. You will choose a password for EACH environment, meaning your passwords can be different.
