Tracking Organizations
How Business Accounts Work
An organization works overtime with another organization and the people there to secure a deal. The model is essentially the same for nonprofit partnerships.
In Salesforce, business account records are all created from the Account object—while Person Account is a separate object. Create different record types and page layouts for different types of business accounts. For example, set up different page layouts for grantmakers and partnering nonprofits to help your team focus on key information for each.
Unlike person accounts, business accounts can have an account hierarchy to structure business relationships within the same organization. For example, if you work with a government agency and several of its departments, create a business account for the agency and then different business accounts for the departments. Relate them by selecting the agency in the Parent Account field on the business account record of each department.
Create and relate person account records to track the people you work with at each business account. If an individual already has a person account record in Salesforce—for example, an existing individual donor—you can relate them to the organization, too.
Create a Business Account

a. You can now use this account record to manage interactions with the organization.
Relate a Person Account to a Business Account
1. On the Account record, click the Related tab.
2. On the Related Contacts related list, click Add Relationship.
a. Notice that your business account is already in the Account field. To create a relationship to this account, we must make two additional selections:
i. Select Roles and add them to the Chosen list by clicking Move selection to Chosen.
ii. Find and select the contact in the Contact field. Remember that person accounts are a mash- up of an existing account and a contact record.
3. Save the new relationship.
a. On the business account record, find the new relationship on the Related Contacts related list. If you click the name of the donor we related, it takes you to their person account.
