Every user in Salesforce must be assigned a profile. Knowing a user's profile can be very useful as profiles determine a user's access to things like objects, fields, and apps. Users are not required to have a role assigned, but roles can be helpful to know when determining the records to which a user has access.

1. Navigate to Setup.

In order to determine a user's profile, you must first select the gear icon in the upper right corner of your screen and then "Setup".

2. Navigate to the Table of Users.

In the new window/tab that opened, type "users" into the "Quick Find" box and then select "Users".

3. Finding a Specific User's Profile and Role.

Users, as well as their role and profile, are then visible in a table format. If the particular user for which you are looking is not visible, first check that the view is set to "All Users". From there, the letters at the top of the table can be used to further refine the users you see in the table. Selecting a letter filters users based on the column that is sorting the table, which in the below example is Role. You can also select the link that is the user's full name to see a complete overview of how that user is setup in Salesforce.
